Born in 1932 in Afghanistan, Hassan attended high school in Kabul and received a scholarship to study geological engineering at the Colorado School of Mines from which he received a BS degree followed by a MS from the University of Idaho. He has worked for the Idaho Bureau of Mines, Afghan Government, Homestake Mining Company and Chevron.
Hassan’s first book was Neft Barai Jahan, a Persian translation of the book Oil for the World by Stuart Schackne and D’Arcy Drake. Afghan Govt. Press, 1965. His second book, self-published in 2010, was titled Stuart My Brother, a novel following the life of two brothers who were separated early in life and found each other when they were both in their 70s.
